A Florida man with a violent past, Michael Banks, allegedly tried to pursue a romantic relationship with his teenage daughter, leading to a violent outburst where he killed a woman, injured two others, and opened fire on police officers.
Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said, “This is another stark reminder of the dangers of this profession.”
“Our officers bravely ran into danger and stopped the threat and prevented anyone else from becoming a victim,” he continued.
The incident occurred in Tampa, Florida, and Banks was arrested after a confrontation with the police.
Prosecutors revealed that Banks overheard discussions about being kicked out of the home due to his inappropriate pursuit of his daughter, which led to his violent actions.
According to prosecutors, Banks admitted to asking his daughter to, “Enter into a relationship with him and not date anyone else.”
He has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and illegal possession of a firearm as a felon.
