Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis spent a combined $72 million in Iowa’s Republican caucuses, placing second and third respectively.

The substantial spending reflects the strong grassroots support for former President Donald Trump in the state.

Haley spent the most, with $37 million, followed closely by DeSantis with $35 million. (Trending: 2024 Miss America Winner Crowned)

The CNN entrance poll indicated positive signs for Trump, who was the early winner with 53 percent support, followed by DeSantis and Haley.

The top issues for Republican caucus-goers were immigration and the economy.

Despite the significant spending and results in Iowa, Trump leads in New Hampshire according to polling.
