A Russian national living in California, Murat Kurashev, has pleaded guilty to providing financial support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), by funneling tens of thousands of dollars to a “jihad” fundraiser.

Kurashev used money transfer services to send approximately $13,000 to couriers for the HTS fundraiser, and expressed a desire to join the fight in Syria as a mujahideen.

He followed the fundraiser’s online presence and social media accounts, which included solicitations for money to purchase military equipment. (Trending: Fox News Star Accused Of Major Scandal)

Kurashev is scheduled to be sentenced in 2024 and faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

HTS, also known as the “Organization for the Liberation of the Levant,” has been designated as a foreign terrorist organization and retains a Salafi-jihadist ideology.
