A federal appeals court allowed a judge’s ruling to bar California from enforcing a law that bans carrying guns in most public places, deeming it unconstitutional.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals dissolved a previous order that suspended the injunction, leading to the law’s temporary halt.
Gun rights groups celebrated the decision, while California’s appeal of the injunction is set for April. (Trending: U.S. State Passes Personal Pronoun Ban)
“So the politicians’ ploy to get around the Second Amendment has been stopped for now,” attorney C.D. Michel said.
The law was enacted following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that expanded gun rights nationwide, and California moved to revamp its firearms regulations.
“This dangerous decision puts the lives of Californians on the line,” Gavin Newsom spokesman Daniel Villaseñor said.
U.S. District Judge Cormac Carney found the law violated the Second Amendment.
