Sales of electric vehicles (EVs) are not meeting expectations, with only a quarter of new car purchases in the UK being EVs for 2023.

This challenges both the electric car market and government efforts to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The data shows that consumer resistance to EVs is not limited to the UK, as similar trends are observed in the US, where traditional gas-powered cars are being purchased at a faster rate. (Trending: U.S. State Passes Personal Pronoun Ban)

“Figures sourced by the MailOnline revealed individuals bought 71,984 of the vehicles last year – 23 percent of the total of 314,687,” the report noted.

“But in 2022 they purchased 88,910 – 33 percent of the total.”
