The U.K. branch of U.N. Women faced criticism for appointing a pro-Palestinian transgender model, Munroe Bergdorf, as its “champion” of women.

Seventeen women’s groups expressed concern about the appointment, stating that it ignored the female population.

“The female population of the UK is more than 33 million, yet you have ignored every one of us and chosen a male,” read the letter. (Trending: Pro Sport Announces Shock Decision On Transgender Athletes)

“Munroe Bergdorf’s well-publicized activism is not pro-women,” it continued.

Critics, including Douglas Murray, condemned the decision and raised concerns about U.N. Women’s delayed condemnation of Hamas’ actions.

Bergdorf, known for pro-Palestinian activism, emphasized using the role to advocate for the progress and safety of all women and girls.

“Working with the U.N. has been a personal ambition and dream of mine. It’s a responsibility that I don’t take lightly,” said Bergdorf.

“I will use this role to further advocate for the progress, safety, inclusion and empowerment of ALL women and girls, of all communities and identities,” she continued.

“I will continue to draw attention to the systemic and social impact of misogyny, transphobia and gender-based inequality within the UK – In order to help provide data and insight that contributes to forming tangible methods of tracking and countering it,” Bergdorf concluded.
