Twin bomb blasts in Iran, killing at least 95 people, have been blamed on Israel and the United States.
The explosions occurred during a gathering to commemorate the death of Revolutionary Guards general Qasem Soleimani.
Iran’s officials, including the president and supreme leader, have condemned the attacks and vowed a harsh response. (Trending: Trump Announces Heartbreaking Melania-Related Health Update)
The United Nations, European Union, and various countries have also expressed condemnation and solidarity.
Mohammad Jamshidi, the Iranian president’s political deputy, wrote, “Washington says USA and Israel had no role in terrorist attack in Kerman, Iran. Really? A fox smells its own lair first.”
“Make no mistake. The responsibility for this crime lies with the US and Zionist regimes (Israel) and terrorism is just a tool,” he continued.
State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, “The United States was not involved in any way… We have no reason to believe that Israel was involved in this explosion.”
“The killing of peaceful people visiting the cemetery is shocking in its cruelty and cynicism,” wrote Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The blasts came amid high tensions in the Middle East due to the Israel-Hamas conflict and the killing of a Hamas senior leader in Lebanon.
“We are focused on the combat with Hamas,” said Israeli Army spokesman, Daniel Hagari.
The attacks have sparked global condemnation and fears of a widening conflict in the region.
Soleimani’s daughter, Zeinab, said, “We condemn today’s bitter terrorist incident… I hope the perpetrators of the crime will be identified and punished for their actions.”
