Some Democrats are concerned about President Joe Biden’s declining support among critical voting demographics, including black, Latino, and young voters.
They believe the president needs to take action to solidify his base for the 2024 election.
Biden’s handling of issues such as the economy, voting rights, wealth equity, and foreign policy, particularly in relation to Israel, has raised concerns among Democratic strategists. (Trending: Trump Announces Heartbreaking Melania-Related Health Update)
Despite efforts to reach out to minority communities through grassroots organizing and targeted advertising, Biden’s approval ratings among these groups have dropped.
One Democratic operative reported, “What we’re seeing now is the beginning of a five-alarm fire.”
“President Biden is underwater on his handling of the economy, and it’s increasingly hard to hide that, even when the alternative is someone like [former President Donald] Trump. Yes, the economy is slowly starting to recover, but people are still under enormous strain. This isn’t the time for platitudes and promises for the future. Voters need to see concrete action. Otherwise, there’s a real chance he loses this thing,” they continued.
An unnamed Democratic strategist said, “President Biden was incredibly productive during his first three years in office, but he still has yet to deliver fully on promises made on the campaign trail.”
“Voting rights. Wealth equity. Gun violence. Student loan debt. Protecting the climate. These are all issues that disproportionately impact voters of color, but they’re also problems that can’t be solved overnight. President Biden hasn’t forgotten about these topics, but it’s natural that voters will feel anxious, given the uphill battle Biden faces with the MAGA-controlled House,” they added.
The campaign is working to communicate its achievements and the stakes of the election to voters of color, but concerns remain about potential support in the upcoming election.
Quinton Fulks, principal deputy campaign manager for Biden’s 2024 campaign, said, “The president and the vice president’s trips to South Carolina, they aren’t from a place of worry.”
“They’re a place of practicing what we preach. The president did prioritize putting South Carolina first in the nation in order to involve more people of color in the presidential process, and so we’re doing just that. But when it comes to voters of color and if we’re worried, look, our campaign has been putting in the work to do everything we need to do to communicate with communities of color next fall, to make sure that they turn out,” he continued.
“We’re not going to wait and parachute into these communities at the last minute and ask them for their vote. We’re going to earn their vote,” added Fulks.
“We know that we have to communicate to these constituencies about what this administration has done, we have to communicate with these constituencies about the dangers that the other side poses, and we’re going to do both, but voters of color are the ones who have the most at stake in this election, and we need to make sure that every single one of them understands the choice in front of them,” said Fulks.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, said, “In 2020, the president was able to bring together the largest, most historic coalition that we’ve ever seen, that Democrats have ever seen, so obviously we want to continue that.”
“We understand that many communities have been left behind. We’re not trying to do the trickle-down economics. We really truly are not. That’s not what the president believes in,” she continued.
