New York City is facing a significant issue of food waste, with millions of dollars spent on meals for illegal immigrants ending up in the garbage.
The company responsible for supplying these meals, DocGo, received a no-bid contract despite lacking experience in food preparation and distribution.
Reports indicate that a large number of meals are being discarded, while food insecurity and homelessness rates among Americans are on the rise. (Trending: Obama Reveals His Fear For Joe Ahead Of 2024)

The New York Times reported that DocGo is paid $33 for each of the 4,000 migrants under their responsibility.
However, DocGo reportedly threw out 70,000 meals in between Oct. 22 and Nov. 10.
City Councilwoman Gale Brewer said, “It’s very expensive for the taxpayer.”

“We’re asking for cuts while we are wasting food,” she continued.
Councilwoman Julie Won also criticized the Mayor’s office, saying, “DocGo’s food waste is symptomatic of a larger systemic failure on the part of Mayoral Admin.”
“The complete absence of oversight, accountability, quality assurance, and transparency in administering these food contracts is shocking and must be addressed immediately,” she continued.
A DocGo representative defended the company, claiming, “DocGo has continued to deliver on its contractual obligations and has ordered no more than 3 meals daily for each asylum seeker.”
Adding, “DocGo continually monitors food consumption and works to proactively identify opportunities for savings on behalf of NYC. Meal consumption currently sits at 93 percent.”
The situation has sparked outrage, especially as the city faces budget cuts in other areas.
Additionally, DocGo is under investigation for mistreatment of migrants and has been accused of providing subpar meals.
This issue highlights systemic failures and inefficiencies in government spending, particularly as it pertains to resources for both citizens and immigrants.
