Wikipedia’s top 25 most viewed pages in 2023 reflect global interest in artificial intelligence innovation, notable deaths, and Indian influence on the platform.
The page about OpenAI’s ChatGPT was the most viewed, followed by biographies of people who died in 2023, the 2023 Cricket World Cup, and the Indian Premier League.
Indian and Southeast Asian content made up a significant portion of the list, reflecting the region’s growing impact. (Trending: Biden Impeachment Vote Comes To House Floor)
“It’s clear that people wanted to better understand the history and the context behind ChatGPT’s technology as they experimented with it,” said Anusha Alikhan, chief communications officer.
“Wikipedia plays an essential role in training almost every large language model,” continued Alikhan.
The influence of India’s rich media environment and its increasing internet user base were highlighted.
“Right now we have about 4,700 active English Wikipedia volunteer editors in India,” said Alikhan.
“That total puts them behind only the United States and the United Kingdom. India has… a rich media environment and information technology sector.”
Additionally, the list featured topics such as influential figures in sports, entertainment, and business, as well as less desirable subjects like the Russia-Ukraine conflict and controversial figures like Andrew Tate.
