Margot Robbie Says ‘Oppenheimer’ Producer Asked Her to Move ‘Barbie’ Release, She Replied: ‘If You’re Scared Then You Move Your Date’

via Harper's Bazaar UK on Youtube

Margot Robbie discussed a conversation with producer Charles Roven, who asked her to change the release date of “Barbie” to avoid clashing with Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.”

Despite the request, Robbie refused to move the date, believing the films were a great pairing.

Both films opened on the same day, leading to unexpected success, with “Barbie” becoming Warner Bros.’ highest-grossing release and “Oppenheimer” achieving the highest-grossing biopic status. (Trending: Elon Musk Condemns Arrest Of Jan 6 Protester)

“One of your producers, Chuck Roven, called me, because we worked together on some other projects,” Margot Robbie recalled.

“And he was like, ‘I think you guys should move your date.’ And I was like, ‘We’re not moving our date,” said Robbie.

“If you’re scared to be up against us, then you move your date.’ And he’s like, ‘We’re not moving our date. I just think it’d be better for you to move.’”

“And I was like, ‘We’re not moving!’”, exclaimed the Oscar-nominated actress.

“It’s a perfect double billing…Clearly the world agreed. Thank God,” said Robbie.

“The fact that people were going and being like, ‘Oh, watch “Oppenheimer” first, then “Barbie.”‘ I was like, ‘See? People like everything,’” remembered Robbie.

“People are weird…I think they were also really excited by the filmmakers. People were itching for the next Chris Nolan film and itching for the next Greta Gerwig film,” she continued.

Adding, “To get them at the same time was exciting.”

The simultaneous release resulted in an unforeseen phenomenon, showcasing the audience’s diverse cinematic interests.
