Fox News analyst Brit Hume downplayed the threat of Donald Trump to democracy, stating that concerns about Trump becoming a dictator are overblown.
He highlighted that Trump’s attempts to hold onto power failed and dismissed the Capitol attack as insignificant.

“It seems to me it’s all a little overwrought,” said Hume.
“We had four years of Donald Trump, and he blustered and bragged and threatened and so forth, and yet he didn’t bring us to the brink of dictatorship,” he continued.
“What was labeled an insurrection lasted three or four hours, and it was no match for the constitutional restraints which exist and would exist in a Trump second term,” charged the analyst.
“He’s more likely to drive the Republican Party into defeat at the hands of Joe Biden than he is to drive the country toward dictatorship,” predicted Hume.
However, other analysts, such as MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan and presidential historian Michael Beschloss, have expressed concerns about the dangers of Trump’s potential second term, likening his agenda to that of authoritarians and fascists.
MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan said, “It’s dangerous, denialist madness.”
Adding, “And I’m sorry, but it ends in only one place: the end of American democracy.”
John Bolton, a former national security adviser to Trump, also warned about the potential irreparable damage in a second term.
“If he were elected to a second term, this time he might [do] damage that would be irreparable,” said Bolton.
“This is a very dangerous period we’re about to enter into here,” cautioned the ex-member of the Trump Administration.
