Tennis legend Martina Navratilova expressed her opinion that men should not compete in women’s sports.
This came after transgender swimmer Meghan Cortez-Fields broke a women’s school record after previously competing on the men’s team.
The controversy led to the deletion of a congratulatory post by the Ramapo swim team, with the school stating that it supports all student athletes and follows NCAA policies.
Navratilova and others have criticized the situation as unfair.

“Women’s sports is not the place for mediocre male athletes who compete as women. Period,” wrote Navratilova.
A spokesperson from Ramapo wrote that the school, “supports all of our student athletes.”
“The original post of Meghan’s achievement was deleted by a peer who wanted to protect their teammate from insulting comments on the post,” continued the statement.
“The College continues to post team and individual student-athlete achievements for all programs on our Athletics website,” added the institution.
Claiming, “As a member affiliate of the NCAA, Ramapo College Athletics follows all NCAA policies, including the NCAA Transgender Student Participation Policy.”
Navratilova reacted to the response on social media.
“I will keep saying this over and over- this is wrong and completely fair and quite frankly a mockery,” wrote the tennis star.
Cortez-Fields had previously admired Lia Thomas, another transgender swimmer who won an NCAA Championship.
