Republican Celeste Maloy won Utah’s special election, replacing former Rep. Chris Stewart.
Maloy, who served as Stewart’s legal counsel, emphasized her rural Utah roots and support for former President Donald Trump.
“It’s exciting that we’re going to have somebody come out of this primary that represents rural and southern Utah, proclaimed Maloy.
I think it’s time for that, and everybody’s ready for it,” she added.

Her opponent, state Sen. Kathleen Riebe, positioned herself as a moderate and highlighted concerns about the nation’s rising debt.
Riebe claims that her constituents “are ready for a change.” and vowed to join the Blue Dog Coalition if she won.
“Coming to a very rational decision and having very moderate ideas, I think that is what serves us best,” said Riebe.
Maloy is the favorite to win, which would give Republicans an extra cushion for close votes in the U.S. House of Representatives.
