Russia has placed Ukrainian singer Susana Jamaladinova, who won the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, on its wanted list for violating a criminal law related to spreading fake information about the Russian military and the ongoing fighting in Ukraine.
Jamaladinova, who performs under the stage name Jamala, is of Crimean Tatar descent and won the contest with the song “1944,” which refers to the mass deportation of Crimean Tatars by the Soviet Union.
The song drew implications about the annexation of Crimea by Russia, which most countries regard as illegitimate.
Ukrainian singer Susana Jamaladinova, who performs under the name Jamala and won Eurovision in 2016, has been added to Russia's wanted list.
She says the Kremlin is lying about her and trying to "scare" her, fearing for her family's safety.
