Cardi B expressed her discontent with Mayor Eric Adams’ plan for significant budget cuts in New York City, predicting that it would lead to increased crime and sanitation issues.
The cuts, aimed at compensating for the city’s spending on asylum seekers, include reductions in the police force, sanitation department, and education budget.
Cardi B also criticized President Joe Biden for providing financial assistance to other countries while cutting services in New York.
“Crimes are gonna go through the roof because there is a police safety budget cut,” she said.
“What’s going to happen to my nieces? What’s going to happen to my nephews? What’s going to happen to my cousins, my aunts, my friends that’s living in the hood?” she asked.
“On top of that, there’s a sanitation f—— budget cut so that means we’re gonna be drowning in rats.”
“I’m from the Bronx, I don’t want to see my s— affected … Everybody be like, ‘New York is dirty,’ and it is dirty,” she pressed.
“And we’re going to get even dirtier with the f—— budget cut.”
“How is there $100 million budget cut in New York City for f—— schools, library, police safety, and sanitation, yet Joe Biden is talking about, ‘Yeah, we can fund two wars’?”
“We can’t fund these wars, we can barely f—— fund this country.”
The revised budget of $110.5 billion will be presented to the New York City Council for approval, with Mayor Adams citing rising migrant costs and slowing tax revenue growth as reasons for the cuts.
“To balance the budget as the law requires, every city agency dug into their own budget to find savings, with minimal disruption to services,” Adams stated.
“And while we pulled it off this time, make no mistake: Migrant costs are going up, tax revenue growth is slowing, and COVID stimulus funding is drying up,” he added.
The Police Benevolent Association president also condemned the plan, expressing concerns about the impact on public safety.
“This is truly a disaster for every New Yorker who cares about safe streets,” president Patrick Hendry said.
“Cops are already stretched to our breaking point, and these cuts will return us to staffing levels we haven’t seen since the crime epidemic of the ’80s and ’90s. We cannot go back there.”
Cardi B’s comments join a growing trend of hip-hop artists showing disapproval for the Biden Administration.
