A transgender swimmer at Ramapo College of New Jersey, Meghan Cortez-Fields, broke a women’s school record in the 100-yard butterfly after competing for the men’s team for three years.

The achievement sparked controversy, with former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines criticizing the situation, claiming it robs biological females of opportunities.

The college spokesperson stated support for all student athletes, and Cortez-Fields expressed admiration for Lia Thomas, a trans swimmer at the University of Pennsylvania. (Trending: Donald Trump Gets Great News Ahead of 2024)

“Those who choose to remain blind to the injustice of allowing mediocre male athletes to become record-breaking female athletes are either incompetent or misogynists. There is no in between anymore,” said Riley Gaines, a collegiate swimmer and activist.

“Women are being asked to smile and step aside and allow these men onto our teams all the while stripping us of opportunities, privacy and safety,” added Gaines, who now serves as an ambassador for Independent Women’s Forum.

“The incident at Ramapo College shouldn’t be a shock to anyone considering we’ve seen virtually the same story time and time again with no people in leadership positions willing to take a stand for women,” explained Gaines.

A Ramapo College spokesperson reportedly told Fox News that the college “supports all of our student athletes.”

According to the spokesperson, “The original post of Meghan’s achievement was deleted by a peer who wanted to protect their teammate from insulting comments on the post.”

“The College continues to post team and individual student-athlete achievements for all programs on our Athletics website,” concluded the statement.

Cortez-Fields has also achieved success in women’s meets this year.
