Donna Brazile was criticized by Bill Maher for repeatedly mispronouncing GOP 2024 presidential contender Vivek Ramaswamy’s name, with Maher suggesting racism was at play.
Ramaswamy responded as well, questioning the reaction if the situation was reversed.
“Vivek needs to just shut the h— up,” Brazile said in an interview.

“I’m Donna, is it Vivake Ramasama? … Vivek needs to go home.”
“I just feel like there’s something wrong with everyone refusing to learn his name,” Maher stated.
“I just feel there’s a little racism there… I know we don’t like him but say his name right… It is Vivek because I heard him do a rap and he said it rhymes with cake. This is what the CNN audience needs to know.”

Some labeled Brazile’s actions as racist, while others pointed to a lack of condemnation from the left.
“I wonder what they’d do if a white Republican intentionally mispronounced Donna’s name & then told her to return ‘home’,” Vivek posted.
“It’s not a little racist,” wrote attorney Harmeet Dhillon. “It’s just racist.”
It was racist if you mentioned Obama’s middle name.
It was racist if you pronounced “Kamala” incorrectly.
It was even racist if you didn’t like “The Squad.”

The debate raised questions about how racially charged comments from Democrats are perceived.
“It was racist if you mentioned Obama’s middle name,” Zeek Arkham said.
“It was racist if you pronounced ‘Kamala’ incorrectly. It was even racist if you didn’t like ‘The Squad.’ But if Donna Brazile, who is already known as a morally reprehensible person, intentionally pronounces Vivek Ramaswamy’s name incorrectl[y], it’s somehow okay.”
