Vivek Ramaswamy responded to Democratic strategist Donna Brazile’s intentional mispronunciation of his name during an appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher.
Brazile mispronounced Ramaswamy’s name and suggested he “needs to shut the hell up and go home,” prompting criticism from Ramaswamy and others for what they perceived as reverse racism.
The incident was also noted for the lack of effort to correctly pronounce Ramaswamy’s name.
I wonder what they’d do if a white Republican intentionally mispronounced Donna’s name & then told her to return “home.” 😂 https://t.co/UIfiSCU6p6

“I wonder what they’d do if a white Republican intentionally mispronounced Donna’s name & then told her to return ‘home,’” Ramaswamy pondered on X, referring to Brazile’s comments.
Brazile mispronounced Ramaswamy’s name while in a discussion with host Bill Maher and former Rep. Adam Kinzinger. She brushed off Maher’s attempt at suggesting a correction and said that Ramaswamy “needs to shut the hell up and go home.”
“Whatever,” Brazile said, dismissing Maher.
“Is it Vivek Ramasama?” she mocked.
Maher continued to redirect Brazile towards the proper pronunciation until she eventually said, “Thank you so much,” but did not pronounce it correctly.
“I learn so much for coming on this show,” Brazile added, sarcastically.
“I just feel like there’s something wrong with everybody refusing to learn to say his name,” Maher insisted.
“I just feel there’s a little racism there,” he bluntly accused her.
That point was picked up by Ramaswamy’s communications director and senior adviser Tricia McLaughlin, who told The Daily Mail, “Reverse racism is racism. If that were a white Republican they would be fired and torn to shreds on cable TV. Donna will probably get an ‘atta boy’ from her colleagues. Gross.”
The Real Time bit continued for another minute, with Kinzinger interjecting with his proof that he could pronounce the firebrand presidential candidate’s name right. Maher then tried to move the conversation forward, but not with one final dig at Ramaswamy himself.
“I know we don’t like him but, you know, just say his name right,” Maher said.
Ramaswamy’s senior adviser Tricia McLaughlin commented on the incident to The Daily Mail.
“Reverse racism is racism,” she exclaimed.
“If that were a white Republican they would be fired and torn to shreds on cable TV. Donna will probably get an ‘atta boy’ from her colleagues,” McLaughlin continued.
“Gross,” she added.
Maher pointed out the issue, while Ramaswamy’s communications director criticized the behavior as being tolerated due to political affiliations.
“I know we don’t like him but, you know, just say his name right,” said Maher to an unfazed Brazile.
