Attorneys from Minnesota and Colorado are attempting to sever former President Donald Trump from the chance to win the presidency a second time, alleging the 45th President played a crucial role in the January 6th Capitol riot, which they argue was in ciolation of the Constitution’s insurrection clause.
If found guilty, Trump would be disqualified from a second presidential term.
The first hearing is set to take place in Colorado state court, and the Minnesota Supreme Court case will follow. (Trending: It’s Time For Donald Trump To Drop Out)
Attorney Eric Olson is arguing that Trump “summoned and organized the mob. We are here because Trump claims, after all that, that he has the right to be president again. But our Constitution, the shared charter of our nation, says he cannot do so.”
“This is a legal Hail Mary by the Democrats,” argued attorney Mike Davis “This case is going to fail.”
A Colorado judge overseeing a case to remove former President Donald Trump from the state’s 2024 ballot has declined to recuse herself despite her donation to an anti-GOP political action committee (PAC).
The lawsuit, filed by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), alleges that Trump’s involvement in the Jan. 6 Capitol riots constitutes “insurrection” and violates the 14th Amendment.
Judge Sarah Wallace, appointed by Democratic Governor Jared Polis, stated that she has no specific memory of the donation and has not formed an opinion on the events of Jan. 6. Trump’s lawyer argues that the lawsuit is anti-democratic and interferes with the presidential election. (Trending: Judge Declines To Recuse From Trump 2024 Ballot Case)

Last week, Wallace rejected Trump’s attempts to have the case dismissed.
Colorado District Judge Sarah Wallace, an appointee of Democratic Gov. Jared Polis, donated $100 on Oct. 15, 2022 to the Colorado Turnout Project, a PAC that was formed to oppose Republicans who “refused to condemn the political extremists who stormed the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.”
“Prior to yesterday, I was not cognizant of this organization or its mission,” Wallace said. “It has always been my practice, whether I was entirely successful or not, to make contributions to individuals, not PACs.”
Hearings have begun to determine if the 14th Amendment disqualifies Donald Trump from running for president in 2024 due to his alleged involvement in the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) filed a lawsuit against Trump, accusing him of inciting and aiding the mob.
The hearings include testimonies from police officers who were present during the attack and California Rep. Eric Swalwell.
Trump’s attorney argues that the suit is “anti-democratic” and plans to call witnesses to discuss the meaning of the 14th Amendment.
