Editor’s Note: This story covers the first day of congressional hearings involving Dr. Anthony Fauci, and mentions what was expected to be covered in the second day. The second day of hearings happened back in January. We updated this article with more information.

House Republicans conducted a two-day interview with Dr. Anthony Fauci, highlighting a lack of oversight in research funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

They emphasized Fauci’s alleged unawareness of activities under his jurisdiction and his involvement in a scientific paper dismissing the Wuhan lab origin theory.

Democrats criticized the interviews as politically motivated, aiming to prove there was no cover-up of COVID-19’s origins. (Trending: Fox News Star Accused Of Major Scandal)

Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic Chairman Brad Wenstrup, said, “Dr. Fauci’s testimony today uncovered drastic and systemic failures in America’s public health systems. While leading the nation’s COVID-19 response and influencing public narratives, he simultaneously had no idea what was happening under his own jurisdiction at NIAID.”

“Clearly, the American people and the United States government are operating with completely different expectations about the responsibilities of our public health leaders and the accountability of our public health agencies,” he continued.

Rep. Raul Ruiz said, “that there was no cover-up of COVID-19’s origins nor a suppression of the lab leak theory on [Fauci’s] part.”

“Nearly 1.2 million Americans lost their lives to a potentially preventable pandemic,” explained Wenstrup.

“[Tuesday’s] testimony will continue the Select Subcommittee’s effort to deliver the answers Americans demand and deserve,” he added.
