A Reuters/Ipsos poll found that a majority of Americans see TikTok as a tool of the Chinese government to influence US public opinion.

58% agreed China uses TikTok to influence Americans, while 46% said China uses it for spying.

Republicans were more likely than Democrats to hold these views.

50% supported banning TikTok, with higher support among older Americans.

Most felt it was inappropriate for US political candidates to use TikTok.

The poll of over 1,000 US adults also indicated concerns that TikTok does not sufficiently wall off US data from its Chinese parent company.

This comes as President Biden recently signed legislation forcing TikTok’s Chinese owner ByteDance to sell or face a US ban within nine months, which TikTok plans to challenge in court.
