Senator Ted Cruz
Anti-Israel activists have staged over a dozen protests outside the Texas residence of Republican Senator Ted Cruz.
14 protests
These demonstrators, allegedly affiliated with the Students for Justice in Palestine organization active on college campuses across the country, have targeted Cruz’s Houston home with 14 protests since February.
Stands firm
Despite the protesters’ actions, including an arrest during a recent protest, Cruz’s office stated that the senator stands firm in his backing of Israel and dismisses the protesters’ methods as “harassment or intimidation.”
Stand with Israel
“Senator Cruz will continue to stand with Israel and support Israel’s right to defend itself and utterly eradicate Hamas. No amount of harassment or intimidation by terrorist supporters will change that,” a spokesman for the senator said.
College campuses
In recent weeks, student activists have spread to college campuses across the country, with radicals at Columbia University’s Hamilton Hall and protests at UCLA, Harvard, and Yale demanding divestment from Israel.
Antisemitism
These demonstrations stem from Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, which sparked antisemitism on campuses through protests, threatening graffiti, and reports of Jewish students feeling targeted.
Leave campus
The situation has escalated to the point where Jewish students are advised to leave campus for their safety. The protests are linked to far-left groups supported by undisclosed funds and liberal donor George Soros, with the National Students for Justice in Palestine prominently involved at Columbia, UCLA, Tufts, and the University of Texas at Austin.
Israel’s actions
According to Influence Watch, the NSJP, a national organization with over 200 chapters nationwide, frequently draws parallels between Israel’s actions towards Palestinians and historical events like Nazi Germany and the Jim Crow era in the United States.
Genocide
The group accuses Israel of genocide. The NSJP’s roots date back to 1993 at UC Berkeley, as noted by NGO Monitor. The national chapter of NSJP praised Hamas’ initial strike on Israel in October, labeling it a significant victory for Palestinian resistance, as reported by The New York Times.
Free Palestine
“This is what it means to Free Palestine: not just slogans and rallies, but armed confrontation with the oppressors,” the group continued at the time.
Substantial donation
The NSJP is associated with the Westchester Peace Action Committee Foundation as its fiscal sponsor, which received a substantial donation from a nonprofit funded by the Soros network, as reported by Fox News Digital.
Violence
Universities have taken action against the group and its affiliates for their support of Hamas, with Brandeis banning the group due to calls for violence against Jews, and Rutgers and Case Western suspending the group in December and March, respectively.
Law enforcement
Law enforcement informed Senator Cruz that the protesters outside his home in recent months are linked to Students for Justice in Palestine.
Houston Police
The Houston Police Department confirmed responding to protests at Cruz’s home this year but could only acknowledge assemblies outside the residence without specifying the protesters’ affiliations.
Arrested
One protester was arrested on Friday evening, with Cruz reporting noise disturbances and protests lasting two hours on his street. Fox News Digital reached out to the Harris County Constable’s office for further details on the arrest but has not received a response yet.
Pro-Hamas protestors
“So, this is going on right now. It’s nearly 11 pm. Pro-Hamas protestors have been screaming and cursing for 2 hours. Banging cowbells & blowing whistles,” Cruz posted on Friday.
Protesters screamed
“When a neighbor who has small kids asked an officer to do something, the protesters screamed that she was a “f—ing b—-!”
Liberal protesters
Liberal protesters have targeted Cruz by organizing demonstrations outside his residence in Houston’s Royal Oaks neighborhood. In 2021, around 60 to 70 climate activists gathered to protest, and this year, protesters have been assembling almost weekly to criticize Cruz for his backing of Israel, as per Axios.
Bigoted views
A consistent protester shared a comment with Axios Houston in March saying, “The point is to show that he does have constituents that don’t align with his very bigoted views. … We don’t support him being AIPAC-funded and his allegiance to a foreign government.”
Criticized
Cruz has criticized the ongoing protests at college campuses, attributing them to the influence of “cultural Marxism” that has permeated universities.
Sickness
“This is America in 2024, and this is a result of the sickness that has taken over our universities,” Cruz said Monday to Fox News’ Sean Hannity. “This is a result of cultural Marxism that has infiltrated and seized control of the faculty and the administration. These are violent protesters that are threatening the lives and the safety of Jewish students. Let me ask you something, Sean. Where is Joe Biden tonight? Where is the attorney general tonight? Where is the FBI tonight? Where is the governor of New York tonight?”
