Jamaal Bowman ‘Fully’ in Favor of Resettling Gaza Migrants in U.S.

via Forbes

Representative Jamaal Bowman expressed support for the US to accept Palestinian refugees from Gaza.

When asked if the US should bring people in from Gaza, Bowman responded that the US has always been a land that welcomes immigrants and asylum seekers escaping violence and oppression.

“Should the United States bring in people from Gaza?” Bowman was asked by a reporter.

“We are a land of migrants, and we are a land of asylum seekers — anyone escaping persecution and oppression and violence — the United States has always been an open home to those people,” Bowman said.

He said the US should continue this tradition of being open to immigrants who want to come and contribute to the economy.

Bowman further supported providing amnesty to migrants who have lived in the US for some time and contributed to society.

“So, whether they’re coming from Palestine, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico, [or] Haiti, they’re coming here to contribute to our economy, which 99.9 percent of them are. We’ve always been a place to open our doors to immigrants coming here, so, yeah, [I] fully support that.”

I “fully” support “amnesty for the migrants who have been here for quite some time” as well, Bowman said.

His comments come amid rising tensions in Gaza and Israel, with anti-Israel protests occurring on some college campuses.

Israel also recently launched a military operation against Hamas in Gaza after Hamas attacks killed over 1,000 people and took more than 200 hostage.
