Comparing his performance times, if he had competed in the boys’ category, he would have likely finished towards the lower end of the standings.

Gallagher participated in the 200-meter and 400-meter races at the Sherwood High School Need for Speed Classic in Oregon last Saturday.

Footage of Gallagher outpacing the girls in the race circulated over the weekend, leading to widespread controversy.

Gallagher completed the 200-meter race in 25.49 seconds and the 400-meter race in 55.61 seconds.

Contention

If these times had been recorded in the boys’ division, he would have placed 61st out of 65 in the 200-meter race and 46th out of 58 in the 400-meter race, indicating he wouldn’t have come close to podium contention.

Strong response

There was a strong response from various individuals online, with many users expressing opposition to Gallagher’s participation in the competition.

Unfair

Some argued that the girls should have declined to compete in a race that was evidently unfair.

Concern

Expressing concern, a parent advocated for a change in the rules, pointing out that Gallagher’s strong performance could potentially lead him to qualify for the Oregon state championships and potentially displace a deserving female athlete.

Twenty-four states

While twenty-four states have implemented measures to prohibit biological males who identify as females from competing in girls’ sports, Oregon has not taken such action.

Unfortunate

This lack of regulation was unfortunate for the female athletes who competed against Gallagher.

Because they know they’d come in virtually last, as this male athlete would have. 61st out of 65 is pretty poor!
