Whoopi Goldberg criticized Donald Trump for attending the wake of a slain NYPD officer, while defending Joe Biden skipping it to attend a fundraiser.
Goldberg claimed Trump “didn’t care” about police during the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.
However, as noted, Trump never incited violence and told protesters to remain peaceful – poor planning led to security breaches.
“What happened is such a sad, sad event, such a horrible thing, and it’s happening all too often, and we’re just not going to let it happen,” Trump said.
The triggerman was “21 times arrested, this thug, and the person in the car with him was arrested many times, and they don’t learn because they don’t respect,” Trump added.
“We have to get back to law and order,” Trump said. “We have to do a lot of things differently because this is not working. This is happening too often.”
The officer originally said to have died from Jan. 6 injuries actually passed from natural causes.
So Goldberg’s use of the riots as a political cudgel against Trump was unfounded.
“Really?” Goldberg said regarding a video of Trump.
“I’m asking that because I was so offended because you-know-who showed up — whether he was asked or not,” Goldberg said. “This is a man who didn’t care what happened to the officers on Jan. 6.”
Opponents criticized Goldberg for being offended by Trump paying respects to the officer, while giving Biden a pass for choosing a fundraiser over the wake, despite the obvious optics of a sitting president skipping such an event.
