Donald Trump doubles-down on his aggressive political rhetoric.
Not People
At a rally to support a Senate candidate, former President Trump denounced some criminal illegal immigrants as “not people.” Trump suggested some illegals are escaping prison, referring to them as “animals.”
‘You call them people’
“I don’t know if you call them people,” Trump said. “In some cases they’re not people, in my opinion. But I’m not allowed to say that because the radical left says that’s a terrible thing to say.”
Economic troubles
Trump predicted economic troubles if Biden wins and suggested steep tariffs. “If I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a blood bath for the whole — that’s going to be the least of it. It’s going to be a blood bath for the country,” Trump said in reference to job losses in the auto industry.
Political violence
Trump’s comments echoed his past use of inflammatory language about immigrants. The Biden campaign condemned the remarks as promoting political violence.
Electoral defeat
“He wants another January 6, but the American people are going to give him another electoral defeat this November because they continue to reject his extremism, his affection for violence, and his thirst for revenge,” Biden campaign spokesperson James Singer stated.
Hitler comparisons
Trump was campaigning in a tight Ohio Republican Senate primary expected to be very close. His language on immigrants has previously drawn comparisons to Hitler and concerns over inflaming tensions, though he has denied such intentions.
Out of context
Trump criticized media outlets and Democrats for taking his comment about a “bloodbath” for the auto industry out of context. Trump predicted a “bloodbath” in job losses in the auto industry if he loses the 2024 presidential election. The term is frequently used by politicians, including Joe Biden during the 2020 primary election cycle.
Inciting violence
However, prominent mainstream media outlets used the opportunity to falsely claim Trump was inciting violence. Various media figures and the Biden campaign had accused Trump of threatening political violence.
‘Bloodbath’
Prior to the comment, Trump had said China building car plants in Mexico to sell cars to the U.S. would result in a “bloodbath” for the country if he wasn’t elected. On social media, Trump said those attacking him understood he was referring to imports allowed under President Biden harming the auto industry.
Eliminate car manufacturing
Trump claimed Biden’s electric vehicle mandate would eliminate car manufacturing in the U.S. unless he was elected. “The Fake News Media, and their Democrat Partners in the destruction of our Nation, pretended to be shocked at my use of the word BLOODBATH, even though they fully understood that I was simply referring to imports allowed by Crooked Joe Biden, which are killing the automobile industry,” Trump said.
Auto industry impact
Trump maintained he was clearly talking about the impact on the auto industry, while media hosts argued his comments implied more than just that industry.
