Michigan state representative Betsy Coffia thanked President Biden for walking back calling an undocumented immigrant involved in a murder case “illegal” and instead using the term “undocumented.”
This prompted criticism from the former Republican governor nominee, who accused the representative of caring more about the immigrant than the murdered American woman.
“I shouldn’t have used ‘illegal.’ It’s ‘undocumented,’” Biden said when asked of the statement.
Coffia had narrowly won election after undocumented immigrants in the area organized get-out-the-vote efforts for her, in part due to her support for legislation allowing them driver’s licenses.
“How sick do you have to be to worry about disrespecting a murderer?” Republican Tudor Dixon said.
Her thanking Biden for his language choice led to allegations of a quid pro quo relationship, with undocumented immigrants helping elect her in exchange for her supporting policies like driver’s licenses that benefit them.

This MI state rep cares more about an illegal animal who brutally murdered a beautiful, young, AMERICAN woman than she does about the safety of our citizens.
Northern Michigan deserves better than Betsy Coffia. https://t.co/rrZOAw11Ls

“We know why you deleted this tweet,” Dixon wrote.
“Dems published articles bragging about your quid pro quo: Illegals organized your election ground game and got you elected in exchange for driver’s licenses,” Dixon added.
