Judge Scott McAfee dismissed three of the charges against former President Donald Trump in the Georgia election interference case, reducing the total charges from 13 to over half a dozen.
While prosecutors can refile the dismissed charges, it represents the first time any charges have been dropped in one of Trump’s four ongoing criminal cases.
The ruling was seen as a blow to District Attorney Fani Willis’ case against Trump, which has faced scrutiny over Willis’ past romantic relationship with a colleague.
A decision is still pending on whether Willis will be removed from the case entirely.
