OpenAI has launched a strong legal defense against Elon Musk’s recent lawsuit, accusing him of fabricating claims in an attempt to gain access to the company’s proprietary AI technology.
Musk alleged OpenAI violated a “Founding Agreement” by privatizing development of GPT-4, but OpenAI argues no such agreement exists.
In its filing, OpenAI portrays Musk as a “jilted backer-turned-competitor” seeking to capitalize on their success after abandoning the project when his demands for control were not met.
OpenAI warned that discovery could reveal emails contradicting Musk’s stated stance on their transition to a for-profit model, and that the lawsuit stems from “sour grapes” over an inability to innovate rather than legitimate legal grievances.
