NFL veteran Jason Kelce announced his retirement after 13 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kelce played his entire career in Philadelphia after being drafted in the 6th round in 2011.

He earned 7 Pro Bowl selections and a Super Bowl ring. Kelce made an emotional retirement announcement, thanking his coaches and teammates.

He said he loved everything about football and achieving his goal of playing his whole career in one city with the Eagles.

Kelce also spoke about the importance of fatherhood.

Kelce said, “I’ve been asked many times why did I choose football — what drew me to the game — and I never have an answer that gets it right.”

He continued, “Stepping on the field was the most alive and free I had ever felt. There was a visceral feeling with football, unlike any sport. The hairs on my arms would stand up,”

Adding, “I could hit somebody, run around like a crazed lunatic and then get told, ‘Good job.’ I love football.”

Kelce said, “It has always been a goal of mine to play my whole career in one city. I couldn’t have dreamt a better one if I tried.”

“I think one of the best things a person can be in this world is a father. A father who is present, devoted, and loving is the greatest gift a child could ask for in our society,” said Kelce.

Eagles teammate Lane Johnson said, “If it was his last game, he was one of the best teammates I’ve ever had.”

“A guy whose passion is unmatched. A guy who I saw Philly try to run him out of town. I saw a guy emerge from that and become the best center maybe that’s ever played,” said Johnson.

According to reports, Kelce decided to retire after the Eagles’ playoff loss to Tampa Bay.

He informed teammates of his decision right after the game. Kelce is considered one of the best centers in NFL history with 6 All-Pro selections.

He has options for his post-playing career, including a possible move to broadcasting.
