The former Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, Raul Ortiz, criticized the Biden administration for failing to communicate with him during his two years in the role, stating that neither President Biden nor Vice President Kamala Harris, tapped as “border czar”, spoke to him once despite him overseeing 21,000 border agents.

Ortiz presided over several major incidents at the border under Biden and testified that the border remains unsecure before retiring.

“I’ve never had one conversation with the president or vice president,” Ortiz said.

In an interview with 60 Minutes, he expressed frustration at the lack of engagement from top officials and believes the White House has sent mixed messages to migrants.

“I was the chief of the Border Patrol, I commanded 21,000 people. That’s a problem,” Ortiz said.

His remarks highlight ongoing tensions between border officials and politicians on addressing the crisis and securing the border, a key issue for the 2024 presidential election.
