The Florida House passed legislation to lower the legal firearm purchase age from 21 to 18 years, with bill HB 1223 passing by a vote of 76-35.
This change aims to return the legal purchase age to 18, reversing the increase to 21 following the Parkland high school shooting in 2018.
“Shame on us. We told the citizens of Florida that we were going to protect them,” Rep. Robin Bartleman said.
The NRA had previously filed a suit against the increased age, arguing it violated the rights of 18-20 year-olds.
