Eye ointment products sold at CVS and Walmart stores nationwide are being recalled due to a lack of sterility assurance at the manufacturing facility, posing a risk of infection.

The impacted products under brand names Equate, CVS Health, and AACE Pharmaceuticals have expiration dates from February 2024 to September 2025.

“For those patients who use these products, there is a potential risk of eye infections or related harm,” the recall notice stated.

“Ophthalmic drug products pose a potential heightened risk of harm to users because drugs applied to the eyes bypass some of the body’s natural defenses,” the notice added.

Users face a potential risk of eye infections due to the bypassing of natural defenses when applying ophthalmic drugs.

While no adverse events have been reported, consumers are advised to stop using the products and return them.

This recall follows previous recalls of eye products due to unsanitary conditions at manufacturing facilities.
