Late night host Stephen Colbert mocked the legal strategies of Donald Trump to avoid paying hundreds of millions in bills coming due related to his fraud case and for defaming writer E. Jean Carroll.
Colbert joked that March would go out for Trump like a “bankrupt sexual predator.”
He ridiculed Trump’s attorneys arguing the judgment could be overturned because Trump’s behavior wasn’t “uniquely egregious,” saying a crime can’t be excused for not being unique.
Colbert said, “You know the old saying, March comes in like a lion, and goes out like a bankrupt sexual predator.”
“You can’t get away with a crime just because it wasn’t unique!” he continued.
The host explained, “You never hear a jury say, ‘We find the defendant derivative.’”
Colbert also poked fun at them claiming Trump is too rich to post bond in the defamation case.
He said, “You can’t argue with that logic. ‘Also, your honor, I shouldn’t have to go to jail because I’m too guilty.’”
In doing so, Colbert highlighted the unusual lengths Trump’s attorneys are going to avoid paying the legal fees and judgments against the former president.
