Prosecutors have provided new details about the murder of University of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley.
Court documents allege that Jose Antonio Ibarra kidnapped Riley while she was on a morning run near campus, hitting her head with an object and causing blunt force trauma.
Ibarra is accused of dragging her body to a secluded area and preventing her from calling 911 after the attack.
Riley had been missing since Thursday and her body was later found by police.
Ibarra, who entered the U.S. illegally a month before the killing, had previous arrests in New York and Georgia on charges including driving without insurance and theft.
“U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested Ibarra Sept. 8, 2022, after he unlawfully entered the United States near El Paso, Texas. He was paroled and released for further processing,” officials stated.
He was facing an outstanding arrest warrant when indicted on multiple charges including murder in Riley’s death.
