Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States, remains one of the most enigmatic and polarizing figures in modern politics. His tenure in office was marked by controversy, charisma, and a distinct leadership style that left an indelible mark on the American political landscape.
Donald Trump’s niece, Mary
Mary Trump, Donald Trump’s niece, claimed that her uncle has “untreated psychiatric disorders” that have worsened over time due to stress.
Untreated disorder
Mary Trump claims that her uncle’s untreated disorder is progressing and is less able to think clearly.
Worsens over time
Mary Trump said, “This is a person who has untreated psychiatric disorders. And any untreated disorder of any kind of worsens over time, as long as it remains untreated. So, it makes perfect sense that somebody who is as unhealthy as he is, who is under the extraordinary amount of stress he is under, would have a harder time holding it together cognitively.”
Quite good when he was younger
Trump continued, “Donald was always quite good when he was younger at sticking to a point. And he knew certain things about his business so, he could say perfectly reasonable statements with confidence. And let’s be fair, he was very good at being in the media. And that is one of the main reasons my grandfather chose him to be his successor because he had that kind of presence.”
Finally reached the end of the road
She added, “What is so fascinating about this chapter in his life is that he has finally reached the end of the road. When he was taking over for my grandfather, or when he was my grandfather’s successor, and one who is going to fill my grandfather’s ambitions, he did not need skill. He needed skill as a real estate developer. He just needed the skill as the arrogant, self-confident, brash guy who played well on television. My grandfather always had hundreds of millions of dollars to prop him up.”
Trump was once good
While Trump was once good at sticking to points and discussing his business confidently, especially when younger, Mary Trump asserts he has finally reached the end of the road.
Arrogant, self-confident persona
She notes he did not need actual skills when taking over his father’s business, just the ability to portray an arrogant, self-confident persona on television, as his grandfather had money to support him.
Extraordinary stress
But now under extraordinary stress, his untreated mental health issues are making it harder for him to maintain coherence, in her view.
Dark and ominous speech
Donald Trump recently delivered a dark and ominous speech at the 2022 CPAC conference, portraying the U.S. under Biden as descending into chaos and warning of an apocalyptic outcome if he is not restored to power.
Trump repeated lies
Trump repeated lies about the 2020 election and framed policy debates around inflammatory cultural issues.
Proud political dissident
“I stand before you today not only as your past and future president, but as a proud political dissident,” Trump said.
Our new liberation day
“For hard-working Americans Nov. 5 will be our new liberation day — but for the liars and cheaters and fraudsters and censors and impostors who have commandeered our government, it will be their judgment day. Your victory will be our ultimate vindication, your liberty will be our ultimate reward and the unprecedented success of the United States of America will be my ultimate and absolute revenge,” he said.
Extreme and intolerant right-wing views
Journalists described the event atmosphere as embracing extreme and intolerant right-wing views.
Stoking grievances
Trump continued promoting himself as a victim and stoking grievances, while threatening opponents and praising Jan. 6 attackers.
Biden is a threat to democracy
“And in many ways, we’re living in hell right now because the fact is, Joe Biden is a threat to democracy – really is a threat to democracy,” Trump added.
Mob of radical left Democrats
“They’ve replaced law, precedent and due process with a rabid mob of radical left Democrat partisans masquerading as judges and juries and prosecutors,” he said.
Cognitive difficulties
His speech showed signs of cognitive difficulties but reinforced his role as a symbol for followers who embrace authoritarianism and white nationalist ideals.
An existential threat
Biden has warned that the 2024 election poses an existential threat, with some journalists saying they may flee if Trump wins.
Choices Americans Make
The choices Americans make could determine whether the country withstands threats to its democratic system.
Democratic system
Former House Speaker Paul Ryan criticized former President Trump in a Washington Post interview. The former Speaker said, “I am in the minority my party right now. I’m not in the establishment. I’m frankly an anti-establishment Republican. And you, I think you can safely argue — I don’t enjoy acknowledging this — that Trump is the establishment and Trump populism is the establishment and that Trump populism is this more isolationist strain that I think is wrong and dangerous and I don’t support, but that does represent a large swath of Republican voters.”
Trump populism
Ryan said Trump populism is now the Republican establishment, which he opposes as too isolationist.
Tucker Carlson praising Moscow
Ryan slammed Carlson for praising Moscow cleanliness during a Putin interview, saying it nurtures isolationism and sympathy for authoritarianism.
Takes the cake
Ryan said, “That was astounding to me. You know, that one takes the cake, frankly.”
