Georgia Governor Brian Kemp harshly criticized President Biden over the murder of a college student by an illegal immigrant.
Jose Antonio Ibarra, a 26-year-old Venezuelan national who crossed the border illegally in 2022, was charged with murdering 22-year-old UGA student Laken Riley.
Kemp blamed Biden’s border policies for allowing over 9 million illegal crossings and failing to provide information about immigrants released into states.
“As I have stated many times in the past, your actions and those of your administration have resulted in every state in the country experiencing the disastrous impacts of an unsecured U.S. southern border,” Kemp said to Biden.
“More than nine million illegal immigrants have crossed the border since you took office – with an additional, unknown number of migrants who were not detained and processed – while at least 58 people on the terror watchlist have been encountered between ports of entry this fiscal year alone.”
Kemp noted Ibarra’s brother Diego was also arrested for possessing fake documents despite multiple arrests since September.
According to CBP documents obtained from sources—The sponsor address Jose Antonio Ibarra provided after crossing illegally in El Paso was The Covenant House in New York— Their website says they are a youth homeless shelter.

Kemp demanded answers from Biden, saying the administration’s “intentional inaction” on informing governors of risks from immigrants released in their states was “outrageous.”
“Furthermore, despite having been arrested on multiple occasions since September 2023 on charges ranging from driving under the influence to shoplifting, your Department of Justice has confirmed that Diego Ibarra has been released back into the community while his asylum claims are being processed,” Kemp said.
“The American people deserve to know who is illegally entering our country due to your administration’s failures, and what risks and challenges every state must now face,” he said.
The governor held Biden responsible for security threats to states from an unsecured border.
