An explosive device was detonated outside the Alabama Attorney General’s office early Saturday morning, though no one was injured.
Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced the incident on Monday, saying the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency would investigate.
Steve Marshall said, “No staff or personnel were injured by the explosion.”
He continued, “In the early hours of Saturday, February 24, an explosive device was detonated outside of the Alabama Attorney General’s Office building in Montgomery.”
Adding, “Thankfully, no staff or personnel were injured by the explosion. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency will be leading the investigation, and we are urging anyone with information to contact them immediately.”
The agency discovered the detonated explosive at 8:19am on Monday after a tip about a suspicious package.
No damage was reported. When asked if it related to Marshall’s stance on in vitro fertilization, a spokesperson said not to jump to conclusions on any specific issue.
One day prior, Marshall said his office had no plans to prosecute IVF families or providers, after an Alabama Supreme Court ruling deemed frozen embryos as unborn children under state law, raising legal questions about IVF.
Katherine Robertson said, “[Marshall] has no intention of using the recent Alabama Supreme Court decision as a basis for prosecuting I.V.F. families or providers.”
The investigation into the explosive device remains ongoing.
