The apparent suicide of a television executive who oversaw the finances of the Sherri Shepherd talk show has caused a stir within the industry.

Matt Uzzle died at his home after the production company Debmar-Mercury, which distributed both Shepherd and Wendy Williams’ shows, launched an internal investigation into why Shepherd’s program had not paid rent on its studio since September and questions arose about its budget.

Sources said staff were concerned the show would be shut down, and when Uzzle failed to provide financial documents as part of the probe, police found him dead in an apparent suicide.

While the company continues producing the show, it has not commented on the investigation or circumstances surrounding Uzzle’s death.
