President Biden called Russian President Vladimir Putin a “crazy SOB” at a campaign event, ahead of new sanctions against Russia to be announced on Friday.
Biden was speaking about existential threats like climate change and nuclear conflict when mentioning Putin.
Biden said, “This is the last existential threat, it is climate. We have a crazy SOB like that guy Putin, and others, and we always have to worry about nuclear conflict, but the existential threat to humanity is climate.”
His remarks come after the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny in a Russian penal colony, which Biden has blamed on Putin.
At the event, Biden also took a swipe at former President Trump for comparing himself to Navalny, and said the GOP had lost its “American moral center.”
“If I stood here 10 to 15 years ago and said all this, you’d all think I should be committed,” Biden joked.
He praised House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, calling her the best Speaker ever.
Biden claimed, “She is the best Speaker of the House I think there has ever been. Thank God she was mostly on our side.”
Biden said more work must be done and shifted to his reelection pitch.
The White House intends the new sanctions to respond to Navalny’s death and Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.
