The family of Wendy Williams has given insight into her struggles in recent years with health issues and alcohol addiction.
Williams’ absence from her talk show led to speculation as rumors swirled about her condition.
“We’ve all seen the images over the last few months — and, really, few years — of what has seemed like a spiral for my aunt,” Williams’ niece, Alex Finnie said. “It was shocking and heartbreaking to see her in this state.”
The documentary reveals Williams battling Graves’ disease, lymphedema, memory loss and confusion.
In 2022, she entered a facility for “cognitive issues” connected to alcohol use.
Her son ensured she prioritized health over work by staying in Miami receiving treatment, though show producers wanted her back.
“I told the producers, ‘No, she’s not coming back up because she needs to get better,'” her son Kevin Jr. said.
By June, with Williams still receiving care, her talk show was canceled, further devastating her.
Her family continues working to support her recovery while also dealing with a court-appointed guardian controlling her access and finances amid ongoing legal disputes.
The documentary provides a firsthand look at Williams’ personal challenges behind her public downfall.
