Two passenger flights by Virgin Atlantic and United Airlines reached speeds over 800 mph due to near record-breaking winds, arriving at their destinations early.

High-altitude winds over the Mid-Atlantic region propelled the planes to such speeds, exceeding the typical cruising speed of around 600 mph for passenger planes.

The planes did not break the sound barrier despite flying faster than the speed of sound, as they were still flying at their usual cruising speeds in exceptionally fast air.
