Jill Biden announced $100 million in federal funding for research into women’s health as part of a new White House initiative she is heading.

The money from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health will fund “groundbreaking R&D” on women’s health issues through a “Sprint for Women’s Health.”

“We will close the gaps, we will accelerate new ideas, and change women’s lives,” Jill says.

Biden launched the initiative last year to address inadequate funding and research on women’s health issues.

She aims to build a healthcare system with women’s experiences and needs at its center.

“We will build a health care system that puts women and their lived experiences at its center, one where no woman or girl has to hear that ‘it’s all in your head,’ or, ‘it’s just stress;’ where women aren’t just an after-thought, but a first-thought; and where women don’t just survive, they lead long, healthy, and happy lives,” Jill adds.

The new funding marks the first major action of the initiative, which grew from Biden’s discussions with health advocate Maria Shriver on closing gaps in women’s health research.

The White House Gender Policy Council is also involved in leading the initiative.
