A Guatemalan man living in the U.S. illegally was arrested for child molestation charges after being released while detained last year.
He was taken into custody by ICE agents and faces sex crime charges in Rhode Island.
“This Guatemalan national has disregarded U.S. immigration laws and has been charged with horrific crimes against a Rhode Island child,” Boston field office of Enforcement Removal Operations director Todd M. Lyons said.
“We will continue to apprehend and remove egregious offenders who prey on the most vulnerable in our society.”
Despite a detainer request, he was freed due to sanctuary city policies.
ICE criticized such policies for releasing dangerous criminals back into society.
