Two police officers and a paramedic were shot and killed in Burnsville, Minnesota during a domestic situation.
The gunman barricaded himself with family members, leading to a fatal confrontation with law enforcement.
“We must never take for granted the bravery and sacrifices our police officers and first responders make every day. My heart is with their families today and the entire State of Minnesota stands with Burnsville,” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz wrote on X.

Seven children were in the home during the shooting.
The officers killed were identified as Paul Elmstrand, Matthew Ruge, and Adam Finseth.
“These heroes leave behind loved ones and a community who will forever remember their bravery and dedication to keeping Minnesotans safe,” the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association wrote.
Another officer was injured but is expected to survive. The gunman, who remains unidentified, was later found dead.
The tragedy has prompted an outpouring of support and condolences from officials and the community.
