For years, mainstream media defended President Biden against claims about his cognitive health and memory issues, dismissing such concerns as right-wing conspiracy theories or ageism.
As Biden trails in 2024 polls and his classified document scandal emerged, special counsel Robert Hur described Biden as an “elderly man with a poor memory” who was not competent to stand trial, saying Biden could not recall basic facts.
However, media figures had long asserted Biden was “mentally acute,” that his “gears are working,” and he was in “good shape” according to his doctor, ignoring evidence to the contrary and gaslighting the public about Biden’s condition, as highlighted in a NewsBusters video compiling past media comments.

MSNBC’s Joy Reid previously said, “If you’re concerned about Joe Biden’s age, you probably don’t know Joe Biden.”
CNN’s Ana Navarro claimed, “Biden is actually in good shape.”
MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace complained, “This whole vein is really really unseemly, I mean, ageism.”
MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow added, “Biden’s personal physician wrote that he quote remains a healthy, vigorous 80 year old male.”
