The man who fatally shot two police officers and a firefighter/paramedic responding to a domestic call in Burnsville, Minnesota has been identified as 38-year-old Shannon Cortez Gooden.
Gooden was prohibited from possessing firearms due to a 2008 felony assault conviction and had his request to restore his gun rights denied in 2019.
The officers and firefighter/paramedic were killed while responding to a call at Gooden’s house, where he was found dead of an apparent suicide later that day, with several guns and ammunition.
A Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension statement reportedly stated that at the time of the incident, Gooden “had several guns and a large amount of ammunition within the home.”
Minnesota has various gun control laws including red flag laws and restrictions on certain firearm and ammunition purchases.
