The Biden campaign announced strong fundraising numbers in January, raising $42 million and entering February with $130 million cash on hand, a record for a Democratic presidential candidate at this stage.

Nearly all donations were small contributions.

Meanwhile, the Trump campaign has not released its January totals but had $33 million cash on hand previously that month.

Biden’s campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said Republicans are divided spending on Trump, while Democrats continue building support for Biden.

Rodriguez said, “While Team Biden-Harris continues to build on its fundraising machine, Republicans are divided — either spending money fighting Donald Trump, or spending money in support of Donald Trump’s extreme and losing agenda.”

Legal issues have imposed a large financial burden on Trump, with a judge ordering him to pay $500 million in a civil case.

While Trump’s assets could cover fines, experts say he will likely appeal and delay payment using bonds.

Legal battles may impact Trump’s 2024 campaign even if cases are later reversed.
