The shootout occurred in a neighborhood across the border from Roma, Texas.

Miguel Aleman has become an area of violence and turf wars between the Cartel of the Northeast and the Gulf Cartel, which operates in the state of Tamaulipas.
Last year, the U.S. State Department issued a Do Not Travel advisory for Tamaulipas due to crime and kidnapping issues.
